Beyond Your Five Senses

You can learn how to communicate with Spirit (or enhance your intuition and psychic ability). You were given a built-in Spiritual Communication System - your five basic senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste.

Five Senses Are All You Need

Before you dismiss the idea that your five senses are your ticket to hearing Spirit, think about the words and phrases people who DO communicate directly with Spirit use to describe their abilities. People explain their intuitive impressions with phrases like:

"I saw it" or "I saw it in a dream" or "She's standing right beside of you"
"I feel it very strongly" or "My gut reaction"
"They're telling me" or "I'm hearing"
"There's a smell of _____ here"

and other such sensory explanations. At times, some people even report tasting something as part of a psychic experience, although that seems to be less common. Nevertheless, perhaps the saying, "It left a bad taste in my mouth" has relevance.

The point is that being highly sensitive to Spirit isn't necessarily a "6th Sense," but more of a heightened use of the five senses we all possess.

Even if one or more of your physical senses are damaged, you can use the others to develop your ability to communicate with Spirit. You may find that your "damaged" physical senses are the ones that serve you best psychically.

Imagination

You have probably also noticed that some people dismiss psychic abilities with phrases like "You have quite the imagination, don't you?" From now on, you can reply, "Well, yes, thank you, I do have quite an imagination." You see, imagination is the "socially acceptable" form of intuition (just as our bodily senses are the accepted forms of psychic ability).

The reason we tend to separate psychic ability into a "sixth sense" is because imagination is not considered to be a bodily sense. Imagination and psychic ability are "of the mind," while seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling are "of the body."

This is actually very good news! You see, combining your body with your mind sets the stage for connecting with Spirit. To connect with Spirit, you must engage your body (senses) and your mind (imagination). Body + Mind = Spirit.

How to Communicate with Spirit

Stillness, mindfulness, and/or meditation in conjunction with a sensory stimulant is how to develop your ability to sense when something "extra-sensory" is going on inside of you. "Sensory stimulants" are anything that you can smell, taste, see, feel, or hear. Are you beginning to see exactly how easy it is to learn to communicate with Spirit?

Let your imagination free while smelling herbs or aromatherapy oils.
Be still while listening to anything. Let the sound carry you away.
Stare at an image until you "lose your Self."
Run your hands over your favorite clothes or scraps of cloth (or even better, your lover!) until you lose sense of time and place.
Learn how to truly taste wine or slow down your meals and appreciate the textures and tastes in your mouth.

Only when you begin appreciating (and using!) your bodily senses will you begin to appreciate (and use!) your "extra" senses.
