Why Can't My Best Friend Be My Life Coach?

She's free of charge!

Chances are if she is your best friend, she wants the best for you, just like your coach would. However, with friendship comes along the unspoken obligation to agree with you, or at least sugar coat her responses and dramatically raise her eyebrows when you report what your dear husband did wrong this morning.

Best friends rarely play 'Devil's Advocate' to get you feeling, thinking, or looking at the situation from alternate viewpoints, and her advice is usually what she would do, not necessarily what you would (or could) do.

Friendship naturally ebbs and flows...some days are "all about her" when you would be better served with a day "all about you." Friendships are emotional obligations that take a lot of time to nurture and grow. Worth it? You bet. Are friends always the best ones to turn to when you need a plan? No; especially if part of your problem is the people with whom you surround yourself.
