Carrier Oils for Massage
You use a carrier oil to dilute the essential oils from plants and herbs. You will want to dilute the essential oil for a couple of reasons.
One, essential oils are very strong. Some of them are too strong to apply directly to your skin and may cause rashes and other reactions. Carrier oils dilute the essential oil so you can safely use it on your body. Of course, if you are allergic to a certain plant or herb, then do not apply any oil containing it, no matter how diluted.
Another reason to use carrier oils is that essential oils are expensive! How much oil do you think you could squeeze from a leaf of sage? As you can imagine, it takes a lot of time and effort to extract the tiniest bit of oil from a plant.
Therefore, you will pay a premium price for any premium essential oils you purchase. If you want to use the essential oil for massage, then you want to mix it into a carrier oil so you can massage more than one dainty shoulder.
And don't worry about diluting your essential oil for massage purposes. A little essential oil goes a long way. You will reap the essential oil's benefits even if there is very little of it in your carrier oil.
